Fat embolism secondary to gluteal biopolymer injection. Case report
Abstract
Fat embolism secondary to biopolymers is a serious complication of unregulated cosmetic procedures, associated with high morbidity and mortality. This is a case of a 21-year-old female patient with acute respiratory failure and hemoptysis following biopolymer injection in the gluteal region. The diagnosis was confirmed by transbronchial biopsy and pulmonary imaging, which revealed fatty material in the lungs. Treatment included non-invasive mechanical ventilation, anticoagulation, and corticosteroids, leading to a positive clinical outcome. This case highlights the importance of early recognition and timely therapeutic intervention in patients with suspected fat embolism secondary to biopolymers, and contributes to the clinical understanding of its management and outcomes.
